"Dialogue: Camilo Velasquez" Exhibit at the Maitland Art Center, FL

Camilo Velasquez Contemplating by S.Lyon
A series of monologues and dialogues on life and death, love and loss, Velasquez’ work combines imagery, text, and assemblage in a sophisticated network of juxtapositions to produce stunning visual creations.
“I like to write and tell stories. I enjoy making things. I enjoy taking pictures. Somehow along the process, it all comes together,” says Velasquez. “I rely on a mixture of prose and poetry for concept and symbolism,” he continues. “If I had to label my work, I would say it is Confidential Narrative. It’s no secret that art is synonymous with communication and life, and that words are not neutral. The word narrative implies a story, and confidential has connotations of trust, intimacy or confession. The essence of Confidential Narrative is in many ways like compressing a story into a song; it’s the distillation and untangling of life’s convoluted experiences for the purpose of making sense of it all.” Camilo Velasquez
